Zinc plating is one of the most widely specified corrosion-protection processes for precision steel components in automotive, hydraulic, and industrial manufacturing. By applying a sacrificial zinc coating to the surface of a machined part, the underlying steel substrate is protected from oxidation and environmental degradation, extending component service life and meeting the surface treatment requirements specified by OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and quality management frameworks, including IATF 16949.
Turnspeed now offers a comprehensive in-house zinc plating service for all components manufactured at our facility. Bringing plating in-house eliminates the lead time, cost, and quality risk of third-party subcontract processing, parts move directly from our CNC machining lines into the plating facility and leave Turnspeed inspection-approved and ready for immediate fitment.
Get in touch for moreDevelopment of our on-site plating facility began in 2020 with the acquisition of a purpose-built facility directly adjacent to Turnspeed's manufacturing headquarters. Since then, more than £2 million has been invested in equipment, scale-up, and environmental control systems, resulting in a facility that operates to the standard expected by the most demanding sectors in our client base.
Our automated, computer-controlled barrel plating line performs high-volume zinc plating across three specifications:
Zinc Clear: Standard electroplated zinc with a bright, clear chromate passivation. The most commonly specified finish for general engineering and automotive fasteners and components is a clean appearance, reliable corrosion protection, and durability.
Zinc Nickel: A zinc-nickel alloy electroplates offering significantly superior corrosion resistance compared to standard zinc. Increasingly specified by OEMs and Tier 1 automotive suppliers where extended salt spray performance is required, and IATF 16949 compliance is relevant.
Zinc Yellow (Iridescent): Zinc plating with an iridescent yellow chromate passivation. Provides additional corrosion protection and is commonly specified for hydraulic fittings, industrial fasteners, and components in demanding outdoor or wet-environment applications.
Quality control on every plated batch is performed using our in-house Fischerscope X-Ray coating thickness measurement system, a non-destructive technology that provides accurate, repeatable, and fully traceable coating thickness data on every part processed.
Our chemical management and wastewater treatment infrastructure meet current environmental regulations, and our facility operates a rigorous environmental compliance programme.
Components can be laser etched for traceability marking before or after plating.
