Wire erosion, or wire EDM (electrical discharge machining), is a precision cutting process that uses a controlled electrical discharge between a fine wire electrode and the workpiece to remove material. Because the cutting action is electrical rather than mechanical, no cutting force is applied to the part. This allows wire erosion to produce features that conventional milling and turning cannot: tight internal radii, narrow slots, intricate profiles, and accurately cut forms in hardened steels, carbides, and exotic alloys, without inducing distortion, burrs, or surface stress.

Wire erosion is the preferred process when conventional cutting is impractical or when the material condition or geometric requirements rule it out. Typical applications include precision punches and dies, tooling inserts, aerospace and hydraulic components with complex profiles and tight tolerances, electrical discharge electrodes, and precision slots or keyways in hardened components.

Turnspeed's wire erosion capability is built around the Agie CUT P350: a machine that represents the current benchmark for wire EDM performance. The Agie CUT P350 delivers a 20% increase in cutting speed over previous-generation models and reduces wire consumption by 25%, translating directly into faster lead times and a lower cost per component for our clients.

The machine's advanced HMI and precision mechanics ensure repeatable surface finish and dimensional accuracy across complex profiles. All wire-eroded components pass through Turnspeed's quality measurement facilities before dispatch, verifying dimensional accuracy and surface integrity on every part.
